“ Beauty of Photography is being able to freeze a moment in time. “

Edison Alcabasa aka Sir “Choi” Alcabasa, a 33 year old- wedding photographer in Laguna said that the beauty of photography means capturing a moment in time. Mr. Alcabasa is formerly a history teacher for five years and during the fifth year of teaching. He was at a crossroad career-wise. He decided to quit teaching and see if he can sort of build a career out of his passion. He gave himself a couple of years and in the end, he really enjoying the journey and have no plans of going back to teaching anytime soon.

Mr. Alcabasa was influenced by an artist from Dumaguete named Hersley-Ven Casero that’s why he became a professional photographer in Laguna.

“A good picture should make the viewer feel something. Catch their attention. It should elicit an emotional response. If the viewer gets to feel or know what you’re trying to say with your photos, then that is good in my book. In hindsight, a good picture is the combination of the technicalities of Photography combined with the emotions, experiences of the photographer or the subject in a single frame.”

For him, good picture should influence the audience to feel something that serve as their attention grabber. It is important that your shots have a catchy and creative look to serve as their reason in appreciating your creative shots.

He also mentioned that he find inspirations in everywhere. He tend to not look much at other photographer’s work but instead focus on movies and music videos. He prefer to focus on movies and music videos to help him in adding some techniques and ideas in capturing a good photo.

According to him, he is against about what people says: the quality of the photo depends on the camera itself. For him the camera is just a tool, and the quality of the results will ultimately depend on the skills of a photographer. But better gear can give an experience/knowledgeable photographer better output. And he believes that professional cameras are made for a reason.

To all soon-to-be a photographer, Mr. Alcabasa has an advice to our future artists/photographers.

“Just create, Just shoot. Master your equipment. Be mindful of your work and accept constructive criticism from people you admire. Continue to create for yourself and you’ll meet the right people along your journey.”

Embrace all the good and bad things that will happen to you because by that you must learn for it. It is not in the camera but it is in your skills and craft. Shoot with all your heart so it can help you to have a better outcome of your project. Photography isn’t consistent. So give it all your best!
