Ted Talk had a guest named Ben Nemtin back in 2015, whose topic was about the “6 steps to crossing anything off your bucket list”. Ben, now a producer, writer, speaker, and TV personality. His story began when he and his friends were still in college in Canada, at that time they were facing confusion, they didn’t know what they wanted to do, but that mean that there is really nothing. We have all these things we want to do but we aren’t doing them because of school, work and other factors that hinders us. They then decided to made a bucket list and started a project called “Buried Life”. When each time they cross out an item on their list, they will help a stranger to fulfil their dream.
They wanted to have a goal and do something meaningful when they were in the point of being in the black hole; make a list of what you should do before reaching the age of 25. Ben also said that, "there is this funny thing when you take an idea or a dream and write it down, it goes from something intangible and makes it tangible”.
Now, here are some suggestions of what you can do before the age of 25. Our very own, Clarice Oyales, a 20-year old MCL graduate of AB in Communication – Multimedia Arts and Jonathan Tolentino also an MCL graduate of 23 years old, BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management,
1) Travel
Travelling is the most common answer, because we know that there are wonders in the places we haven’t been to before. Each and every place has its own uniqueness that we want to experience first-hand.
We are still in school, and we don’t have a lot of time to go out nor do we have the money. If time permits you to have a break, grab the opportunity, start by exploring local places. And if you have the chance to go to other countries, go for it.
The reason to why we should travel, according to Lifehack, is because the experience will help us to be open minded about a lot of things. Traveling will also push us out of our comfort zone, and life hack also stated that we are never guaranteed old age, so we should enjoy life’s experiences.
2) Skydive
When you hear the words “bucket list” or “must do’s”, what comes to mind is that you should do something extreme and fearless at least once in your life. Facing one’s fear is an adventure, and becoming fearless is the goal. To experience something thrilling and something you haven’t done before must be in your list.
Are you afraid of heights? Then why not try skydiving. Do something you are afraid of, at least once in your life is a must do, but being able to do it while you are still young is even better.
3) Go see lot of films and read lot books
Sometimes one just need to take a moment and chill. Watching a film and reading a book helps us escape reality, but there is actually more to this. Seeing other’s perspective through reading and watching, it helps us to learn more about different cultures, it helps us see what others see, and feel how they feel among others. Exploring is not just a physical activity, exploring through our imagination and connecting with the author “… will absolutely add huge things in one’s life”. In other words, certain films and books enable audiences to connect with the character(s) thus serving as a guide in life.
4) Exercise Consistently
“A healthy body is a healthy mind” our body affects our mind as well as our mood, and productivity. Start small; the simple things we do daily is our starting point and also, the most crucial ones. Exercising can do a lot to your body and not just lose weight. It helps boost your confidence, it can improve your performance. For example, a simple 10 to 15 crunches a day could rid of lower back pains and do you a good posture. And we all know how good posture leads to one person being significantly happier. Every little step we make, will serve as our foundation as we climb up to success.
5) Start your own business
When you start a business, it should be something you like or at least close to your passion, so when you’ll manage your business you will be motivated because you will be doing something you are passionate about. You can only enjoy life to its fullest, when what you are doing is close to your heart.
Jonathan said that “Start your own business, and aim higher regardless if it is a small one. That is your stepping stone. Have an end goal and all the minor details will fall into place”. After starting your business, be consistent and be persistent.
6) Buy your own lot
Invest in your future and buy your own lot. As we grow older, we are starting to want our own space, so that we can focus to work. We also want to become independent and be a responsible adult, and make our own decisions. Having your own lot in a young age is also good because you can focus on other things you want to buy or spend your money on in the future.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter if you follow this list, you can make a whole new different list if you want. There are many articles about this topic and they all have different lists. Remember the first step is to know what is important to you, know what is it you really want to do. After knowing what you want to do, write it down no matter how absurd it is, no matter how many no’s you hear, still go for it. Ben and his friends started with just randomly writing what they wanted to do, like “play basketball with Obama” and to think that they’re from Canada, but eventually they were able to make it happen and cross it off their list. What really matter is that you live and enjoy your life.
